The Giant Dipole Resonance (GDR) and related spin-dependent excitations in heavy spherical nuclei are studied within the Wigner Function Moments (WFM) method. The energies and excitation probabilities of spin M 2 isovector and isoscalar excitations are calculated for &sub(208)Pb and &sub(90)Zr. The spin degrees of freedom give rise to the electric spin dipole excitations. For these states, the energy location and E 1 transition strength are estimated. The results of calculations are compared with the available experimental data and with other theoretical studies.
