One of the key factors restricting the absolute yield measurements of the long-range alpha (LRA) particles and tritons in ternary fission is the rather low detection efficiency. In order to enhance the detection efficiency and to have particle identification ability, a method to determine the absolute yields of the long-range alpha particles and the tritons in ternary fission using a twin-gridded ionization chamber (GIC) is proposed and verified. Our method makes full use of the GIC with high detection efficiency, the fissile sample being shielded with different thickness aluminum films, different pressure working gases as well as high-precision simulations. The absolute yields of the long-range alpha particles and the tritons in spontaneous ternary fission of the &sup(252)Cf were measured. The measurement condition (the gas pressure and the thickness of the Al film) for each measurement was optimized. For the long-range alpha particles and the tritons, the events were selected in the anode rise time vs anode energy two-dimensional spectrum. Taking into account the detection efficiency and correcting the influence of the other ternary particles based on the comparison between measurement and simulation results, the absolute yields of the long-range alpha particles and the tritons are obtained. The energy distributions of the LRA and the tritons were obtained by adjusting the energy distributions to achieve agreements between the spectra from simulations and from measurements. The present yields are in good agreement with the data from previous measurements. The present method has the advantage of quite high detection efficiency and partial particle identification ability which can be used in future works to determine the emission probabilities of the long-range alpha particles and tritons in the fast-neutron-induced ternary fissions.
