An attempt is made to explain the experimentally observed binary decay of some fission fragments of &sup(252)Cf(sf) while traversing the degrader foil. Assuming these fragments are born in metastable shape-isomer/cluster states formed during the initial binary fission, an influence of the Coulomb field of the foil nuclei on decay barriers and half-lives of these states is investigated.
