The relationship between neutron-induced nuclear reactions and the *a cluster structure has rarely been studied to date. In this work, the (𝑛, *a) reactions are selected as a subject and the emitting *a particles from the &sup(63)Cu, &sup(64,66,67)Zn(𝑛, *a) reactions were measured. Measurement results show that the emission of high-energy *a particles from the &sup(64,66,67)Zn(𝑛, *a) reaction holds an unusually strong non-statistical equilibrium phenomenon, while this phenomenon does not exist in the &sup(63)Cu(𝑛, *a) reaction. It is found that the *a cluster effect in (𝑛, *a) reactions is more obvious for the nuclei with 𝑍 equals magic number plus 2, which leads to the non-statistical equilibrium emission of *a particles. The strength of the *a cluster effect in the (𝑛, *a) reactions is positively correlated with the incident neutron energy and tentative evidence of a weak negative correlation to the neutron number in the target nucleus is observed. For the first time, the *a cluster effect in the (𝑛, *a) reactions is experimentally discovered, contributes to the understanding of cluster structure effects in neutron-induced nuclear reactions. In addition, the present measurement data is also helpful for the nuclear data evaluations of the &sup(64,66,67)Zn(𝑛, *a) reactions.
