This paper proposes a simple method for assessing the quality of the inelastic neutron scattering (INS) data conversion into absolute units. An example of the use of this method at the direct geometry chopper spectrometer HET (ISIS, UK) demonstrates that the systematic error resulting from this procedure could be as low as 1.4 %. The data presented in this paper provides all the necessary information to enable the application of this method to other INS spectrometers.
